Giveaway: Bob Evans and Mimi’s Cafe

by Andrea Deckard on November 12, 2009

Bob Evans Mimis Cafe

Last month, several bloggers in the area went on a tour of on of a newly designed Bob Evans facility.  I was bummed I had to cancel at the last minute since our son had an asthma attack.  But, I know the gals had fun (several of the #bigdealmoms went) and they enjoyed their brunch after the tour.

I have yet to try Mimi’s Cafe, but I am planning on going with my BFF. She has been several times and just raves over it.  Seriously, whenever there is a coupon she reminds me that we need to visit!  We will be going there soon!

Actually, it got me thinking of something.  Do you go Black Friday shopping?  I know one of the traditions my mom has is to get up at the crack of dawn (you know the time, the roosters aren’t even awake yet!) and then have breakfast after all the deal shopping is done.  Both Bob Evans and Mimi’s Cafe would be great places to enjoy breakfast after a marathon shopping morning!

So, even though I missed the event, Bob Evans still sent me along some goodies anyway.  And, the best part, they sent me along some to share with you!!  I have two items to give away: a $50 Bob Evans Gift Card and a $50 Mimi’s Cafe Gift Card. To enter in this giveaway, you have several forms of entry, which are:

Leave me a comment and tell me if you brave the elements on Black Friday.  I went shopping on Black Friday once. I didn’t get up early, we went out around 9a. I might actually go out this year though. Or, I could just stay at home to shop online and then go to breakfast anyway :)

Subscribe to my feed here or daily email update here. Leave a separate comment to inform me that you have subscribed. And, of course, if you already subscribe definitely leave a comment for that too!

I will be snug in my bed on the morning of Black Friday…..and possibly shopping online midmorning :)

2 Kelly November 12, 2009 at 12:21 pm

I don’t go out on Black Friday but I’ve found that most of the deals are available online so I go in my PJs!

4 Kristi November 12, 2009 at 12:24 pm

I will definitely go out on Black Friday. Not to a mall (no way), but usually to Walmart & Kohls for a few good steals, then back home for some online black friday shopping. :) (And I already subscribe).

5 Kristi November 12, 2009 at 12:26 pm

I also RT’d for you! :)

6 Emily November 12, 2009 at 12:31 pm

I really like scoring the black Friday deals and I’ve been able to do it for the last 2 years while DH was away from the retail industry. He is back this year, so I know he’ll be working that day and I’ll have to stay home with the kids.

Andrea, it would be great to see a post on Black Friday/Cyber Monday online shopping. I might have to go that route this year and I have no idea what I’m doing. Any tips for strategies, what to do, etc.?? Help me, please!

7 Stephnie Padilla November 12, 2009 at 12:31 pm

I am so there. I have been day dreaming about black Friday. What am I going to do with the kids….They are not going……Who will go with me?….and so on. I think I’m more excited about finding a great than buying Christmas gifts. I am pathetic and I am ok with it. :)

8 angie November 12, 2009 at 12:36 pm

I go Black Friday every year with my husbands family we leave around 9am. Then take the kids to see Santa. It is a lot of fun!

It’s a tradition with my Mom–after we eat the turkey we map our our plan…and wake up around 3:30 to start the fun!

12 Jennifer November 12, 2009 at 1:05 pm

I love to black friday shop except that the last two years I have been out of state for a vacation so no shopping for me. I have to map out my shops and then hand over my list and money to my MIL to go for me.

13 Theresa November 12, 2009 at 1:09 pm

I think I’ll be sleeping in this year. I’ll be doing more internet shopping than ever this year. It’s just so easy…and easy to price compare.

14 Amanda A. November 12, 2009 at 1:11 pm

I’ve only been out once, about 5 years ago. There was something specific I wanted so I waited in line at Target…..it wasn’t that bad but I’d rather spend a few extra dollars and sleep in!!!! LOL

When I was younger and still at home we would do Black Friday at the Disney Store. Now, I stay sung at home and enjoy the day with my own family.

17 Sally November 12, 2009 at 1:40 pm

Totally go shopping every year with my mom. One year I had a 6 week old. We started at 4 a.m. and when the baby woke up went home and fed her. Then we would go back out until she needed to eat again. Love shopping on Black Friday.

18 Aimee Kirzner November 12, 2009 at 1:45 pm

I will be going out early on Black Friday. Too many great deals to pass up. Last year, I went to Wal-Mart at 7 am and the items that went on sale at 5am were almost gone. So, I am planning on going whenever the sale starts. I hope to be done and home by 9!!!

19 Amber November 12, 2009 at 2:05 pm

I have gone out a few times – only worth it if the sales are really good and can’t be had later. I actually like the new trend of outlets opening at midnight on Thanksgiving – that’s easier than getting up early. I might participate this year if the same sales aren’t valid online.

20 brad ricklefs November 12, 2009 at 2:14 pm

most of the time, we shop from the comfort of our own home on black friday. however, this year we’ll be visiting family in st louis, so i do plan to get out early and see what all the fuss is about.

21 Marsha Jones November 12, 2009 at 2:15 pm

I have a wonderful hubby who braves the crowds for me. I go through all the ads and mark what I want, and map out a route for him. My two older kids love the great deals and now go with him to divide and conquer.

22 Denise November 12, 2009 at 2:15 pm

I do NOT go out on Black Friday. It is not worth it to me for 500 people to fight over 2 items! I would rather wait and enjoy spending my money!

23 Marsha Jones November 12, 2009 at 2:16 pm

I just followed on Twitter and sent out a tweet.

25 Ashley C. November 12, 2009 at 2:22 pm

I braved Black Friday last year & just ended up mad because home depot published the wrong opening time in their flyer and they were sold out of the christmas tree I wanted by the time I got there. So this year I will prob just sleep in!

26 Becky November 12, 2009 at 2:23 pm

No plans for Black Friday. Two years ago I ran to Meijer to get a deal on an iPod, but no I hate the crowds!

My mom and I always venture out on Black Friday to get our big items finalized (cheaply) for the rest of the family. Our local mall now stays open through the night previous, so we don’t have to wake up at an absurd hour – we can just go at night and stay over!

29 Emily November 12, 2009 at 2:33 pm

I want to go shopping on Black Friday but have to work. Bah! I’ll do my shopping on-line this year.

30 alexandra November 12, 2009 at 2:34 pm

tweeted & fb’d.. thanks! : )

31 Sarah November 12, 2009 at 2:37 pm

yes, we venture out on black friday, my mother in law watches our four small children, and my husband and I go out for a morning and breakfast together.

32 Emily M. November 12, 2009 at 2:49 pm

I used to wait tables at Bob Evans! And I still love it!

I don’t usually get up early and have some big plan to hit the stores, but I’ll always end up going out at some point that day and being blown away by the craziness. But what else are you going to do that day?

37 Suzy November 12, 2009 at 3:11 pm

I do not brave the elements, as we’re always out of town. I might go shopping later in the day but I don’t think I would ever get up before dawn for anything unless the house was on fire.

Yes, we will definitely be out Black Friday. My whole family goes out. We usually have a group of three or four in different parts of the metroplex. If someone doesn’t get what they want we can call the other group and they will check their store. We tag-team shop and are done usually by 10am and meet for brunch! It is tradition and I can not wait for my daughter to be old enough to participate.

41 Jeaneane November 12, 2009 at 3:15 pm

I don’t do the Black Friday thing. I like to sleep and with a two year old I just don’t see it happening this year.

46 Teresa November 12, 2009 at 3:19 pm

I have a wonderful husband who will get up and go anywhere I ask :)

I am ABSOLUTELY going out shopping on Black Friday. I used to be scared of it, but now I know that’s when the SERIOUS shoppers are out. We all know what we want, and we go & get it – none of this wandering around the store, looking to see what they have, and if it’s what I want. My SIL insists that the family come to OH for Thanksgiving so that she can participate in the tradition – she gets most of her Christmas shopping done on that day.

52 bbee November 12, 2009 at 3:24 pm

I will be doing my gift shopping mostly online! Safe travels and Dr. Scholl inserts for all who will be venturing out.

53 april November 12, 2009 at 3:24 pm

no way! I send a list with my mil(who LOVES black Friday!)

54 Crista November 12, 2009 at 3:25 pm

There is a gang of us that shop Black Friday every year. We sit down the day before and hunt through ads. Then we decide who will go to what store and divide up money. I think hubby and I are the only ones that shop with cash, though.

55 Shelbie Johnston November 12, 2009 at 3:25 pm
56 Andrea November 12, 2009 at 3:27 pm

I love to shop on Black Friday! But this year, I am having a baby right before Thanksgiving, so I’m not so sure I will be able to get out as early as I usually do. I hope to get in on some of the sales though!

57 Lisa November 12, 2009 at 3:27 pm

I have shopped on Black Friday once and could not believe the crowds – but actually enjoyed it. Won’t be able to this year because my hubby has to work.

Every year 3 of my nieces and I go out. We start on Thanksgiving day pouring over the ads to decide where we want to go. We usually get together about 5 AM and then take a break for breakfast after we have hit the places we need to get to first and then go at it some more. Even if we didn’t buy a thing it’s a great girl’s day out!

75 liz November 12, 2009 at 3:44 pm

I leave at the crack of dawn and do my shopping at the local walmart and such then go pick up my son to head out to the malls. Always have a great time!!

I LOVE to shop on Black Friday! I wait all year, and spend tons of time prepping, making my lists of what to buy and when to be where. Being a stay-at-home mom, I love getting out with the crowds, making new friends in lines at 3am waiting for stores to open, and the fun of dragging all your stuff home exhausted at 10 in the morning. Can’t wait!!

I posted this on facebook, too…

I have shopped black friday’s in the past. It depends on what you want and if you are willing to handle the crowds and long lines for it. OfficeMax had some great deals a few years back. You have to be patient. Don’t know about this year. Haven’t seen any deals worth getting up that early for.

129 April Vereb November 12, 2009 at 4:56 pm

I LOVE the prices on Black Friday is the only thing that makes me get out in that mess of a crowd!! :) I try to be there at opening for the deals that I’m really interested in. The other stores I try to just make it to as I get there.

I usually end up going out shopping on Black Friday, and probably will try to pick up a few deals again this year. I no longer go to malls much, and probably won’t that day, but depending on sales will probably hit a few stores. My Mom and I used to go to the Mall, but too much for her now. I do miss this “crazy time” with her, and have to remember to shop other days with her at local stores – we forget how much this means to our parents sometimes!! Great memories – She lives down the street so we do plenty together still, but … Can’t beat the love of family!!

I LOVE shopping on BF. I try not to start any earlier than 6am but I usually shop until about 4 or 5pm. :) It definitely requires the right attitude (jolly is good!) & spirit to deal with BF shopping.

If I have money then I will definitely brave the element on Black Friday! There are some great deals.

150 Rita November 12, 2009 at 6:11 pm

My sister and I did it once a few years ago and hated it. I still don’t get what all the hoopla is about. Who wants to get up that early, get crappy parking and fight crowds? I manage to do very well w/my Christmas shopping w/o it. I think I’ll bow out again this year. Better to do shopping early, online and then finish up w/Cyber monday!

I go Black Friday shopping but only to one place usually. Most often it’s Wal-Mart because they price match so I already have everything I want picked and circled in everyone’s ad and I buy it all at one place! I sometimes go to other places if Wal-Mart doesn’t carry a certain item.

My husband and I have gone for the last several years. He loves to get the Sears deals. But the gift cards at the door aren’t as popular of a promotion anymore since company’s are cutting back. The deals don’t seem as good either. I tend to go for a couple specific items (really good deals), but the online shopping has taken over most of the gift items.

Thanks to Bob Evans for this giveaway! Their pot roast sandwich ROCKS!

176 Kelly November 12, 2009 at 8:05 pm

I won’t be shopping on Black Friday. I did that once and it was scary watching the people run into Walmart!

180 Angela November 12, 2009 at 8:25 pm

Probably not going to get up early this year to hit the stores. I did it one year. Bought a video camera at Circuit City for a steal, but then didn’t do the rebate correctly, so it was just a regularly priced video camera!

181 tina November 12, 2009 at 8:31 pm

until about three years ago i was there but on the other side as a walmart associate and wow i thought these people were NUTS, we would step out of the aisleways and just be in aww as they unlocked the doors and laugh. but now im one of those NUTS and love every bit of it!!! saving money is not just my hobby, it’s my way of life. i enjoy it alot!! too much maybe lol.

182 Alicia November 12, 2009 at 8:40 pm

I started shopping on Black Friday a few years ago and I LOVE it! Although I keep it safe and stick to Target & sometimes Walmart. They could be giving away the toys at Toys R Us with big stacks of cash thrown in the bag as well and I would still not go anywhere near one of those stores..They are NUTS around here.

Hi Andrea

Sorry I missed the jewel party. I did not have a sitter for the little one. As for Black Friday I have braved it several times. I have gotten some good deals standing in line for gift cards and great deals at Kohls. This year with a little one I am not sure I am that brave. I may do the online thing.

First of all, I love Mimi’s Cafe! Awesome chicken pot pie and rolls. Going there on Sunday for a ladies night out and with my coupons! :) Definitely will be looking to score some big deals on Black Friday. Always get up and have donuts in the car (4 a.m.) and then have brunch later. Whoever joins me, my mom, aunt or girlfriend, we have a blast shopping and then taking care of our appetite at the end of the day! :)

227 sue November 13, 2009 at 8:47 am

I try not to go to too many places on black friday because I just get hostile. I am not a morning person and the crazy people make me nuts! :) Usually hit up Walgreens, Menards, Family Christian. I am not crazy enough to go the REALLY busy stores. Happy shopping!

228 Gail November 13, 2009 at 9:02 am

Last year was my first year going. We got up at 2:30 to be at Kohls at 3am. It was a blast, some ladies really into it. I will do it again, but make sure you get what you want and get in line fast or you will be standing there all day!

229 Angel November 13, 2009 at 9:02 am

235 Brooke M November 13, 2009 at 10:13 am

I love black Friday, not for the shopping, but just for the excitement of the holidays! I HATE lines! I am not a very patient person, and there aren’t many things for me that would be worth enduring the never ending lines of black Friday, BUT i will admitt I love to go to the mall and people watch. Plus, it is like the kick-off to Christmas, the most wonderful time of the year!

Thanks~

244 Nicola November 13, 2009 at 11:30 am

I love black friday shopping. My mom, sister and I leave the house about 5am. After the shopping we go to Jack-in-the-Box drivethru for their breakfast sandwich!

To show you how dedicated I am to the tradition of BF, 3 years ago my Daughter was born on 11/14 (via c/section) and I STILL went out. I obviously couldn’t drive (or walk to far) but we still had fun. I normally drive, and it was nice to be a passenger. I did cut the morning short and was ony gone about 2.5 hours while DH stayed home with the kids. We were just pulling into the driveway when DH called to tell me that Kaelyn wanted to nurse! :)

247 Cee November 13, 2009 at 1:27 pm

We don’t go out for Black Friday beyond going to get a Christmas tree. We try to get presents online or beforehand, so there’s no scrambling for gifts or worrying about last minute plans.

248 Jill L November 13, 2009 at 1:28 pm

I have been out on Black Friday three times: once with just my sister, once with her and one of my best friends, and once with my sister and another friend. We’ve always gone late night, between midnight until almost 9am. I find it amusing to watch other shoppers because I’m usually already finished, or close to it, shopping for others, so I enjoy the energy and somewhat madness of it all.

253 Kris November 13, 2009 at 3:26 pm

I certainly go out! The only year I didnt was last year when I was 7 monthes pregnant with my twins! Me, my girlfriend and our moms have a tradition to go shopping very early and we spilt the deals up into the mom and daughter groups and attach more area at once. This year wil mark 5 + years we have been crazy enough to do this!! The we go to Breakfast!

It is a great time!

263 Cheryl November 13, 2009 at 6:19 pm

I’ve only done it once. Fortunately, I was able to drag my husband along with me. He would drive me to the stores, drop me out front, then park. When I was ready to leave all I had to do was call him on his cell and he would drive up and pick me up. If that wasn’t enough, he even treated me to a lovely lunch at a local restaurant.
By the end of the day I was exhausted…but it was fun!
Now, I try to get most of my shopping done before BF. The sales are just as good and everything is in stock.

264 Sue November 13, 2009 at 6:22 pm

I do not brave the elements on Black Friday

292 Erin from long island November 14, 2009 at 12:39 am

I prefer to get a jump on the sales and shop online after midnight. As for braving the elements, I plan to go on a guided foraging trip either friday or saturday after thanksgiving. whats better then free food that grows wild?!

Thanks Andrea. I subscribed to your email. We are going to be in Florida this year but I usually do Black Friday although I have noticed that in the past few years the motivation to getting up early is waning. The ads haven’t really been that great for me.

308 LindaD November 14, 2009 at 8:07 am

No wee hours of the morning Black Friday start-ups for me. Where I live, it’s often freezing and snowing then. I’ll be holiday shopping snug in my office on my computer. By the way, I love Bob Evans, but have never been to a Mimi’s Cafe ~ would love to try it!

309 Laura November 14, 2009 at 10:27 am

Yep, my mom and I go out every Black Friday. We usually start around 7 and are home by noon for a nap!

Yes, as a young mother of five, it was always imperative that I get those good bargains before Christmas, but now old age makes it hard to battle those crowds. (I kind of miss the fun though.)

313 Claire November 14, 2009 at 10:39 am

Not really! Haha.. I might do it if there’s something I really want on a great sale but there usually isn’t. I might have to brave Old Navy this year extra-early to stock up because I’m in the process of losing weight. :)

314 Linda November 14, 2009 at 11:03 am

I don’t go out on black Friday anymore, it is just to crowded for me!

315 Heather S November 14, 2009 at 11:08 am

I will go but not early in the morning. I will go out later in the afternoon.

316 Linda Fish November 14, 2009 at 11:33 am

317 Jennifer M November 14, 2009 at 11:47 am

I do not! I just shop online.

318 Denise B. November 14, 2009 at 12:14 pm

I stopped doing “Black Friday” many years ago. I do all my shopping online. You will find the same “Black Friday” deals online plus many more not offered in-store. Plus, online, they start running “Black Friday” deals at the beginning of October. I get all the “Black Friday” alerts and deals right into my email. Given all this, I can’t imagine why people still waste the gas and drive themselves crazy running from store to store between certain times. By the way, the really good “Black Friday” deals in-store go live online the night before already.

319 Tara November 14, 2009 at 12:35 pm

No thanks! No black friday sales for me, at least not in store. I’ll do my shopping online and keep my sanity.

328 Ellen Christian November 14, 2009 at 2:48 pm

I’ve gone out in the past on Black Friday but ‘m not sure if I’ll go out this year or not.

329 Erin M November 14, 2009 at 3:04 pm

The worst Black Friday for me was actually working at the GAP and being schedueled to work that morning!
People lined up before we opened. . .the dressing room line somehow entangled the check out line
and i think i cried when i got home~
=D

330 Mike C November 14, 2009 at 3:19 pm

We used to be brave, but things seem to get crazier every year. Plus online shopping gets better every year as well. There’s nothing we really want that badly this year, so I think we may stick to online shopping this year.

331 Melissa November 14, 2009 at 3:37 pm

I’m not normally a Black Friday shopper…I feel like I can find pretty good deals online using ebates, etc, and then I don’t have to fight the crowds :)

332 Nycole K November 14, 2009 at 3:39 pm

Did the black friday thing once and will never do it again. I usually do not buy the big items that are on sale that morning anyhow. We have a much smaller holiday budget and I can usually find what I want online w/ coupoins and discounts for less than I would pay in the stores.

I have gone shopping on Black Friday before but I would never get up at 2:00am to sit outside of Walmart or any other store in an attempt get the one of 5 special TV’s or some ludicrous venture of this sort. I would rather be snug in my bed and get up with the family the next day and enjoy leftovers and coffee and whisky nogs etc. Way more fun.

388 Ruby November 15, 2009 at 9:06 pm

I’ve never been brave enough to do the very early black friday shopping. I went just once at noon to a Target but everything was on the floor and most things were gone. It was a mess and I could barely walk around before getting pushed.

389 Amy November 15, 2009 at 9:16 pm

I have only ever been out on Black Friday once when we were visiting my parents in a tiny town in Florida and it was only because we knew there wouldn’t be a lot of people around. I don’t do crowds and I can’t stand rude people so I don’t do well on black Friday’s around where we live. Anyway long story short (too late) no, I do most of my holiday shopping online to avoid rude pushy people.

I will stay in bed—-2 years ago my teens needed laptops—best**y had a great deal —I stood in line for 7 hours they handed out tickets—explained they had 10 laptops for the deal—I had ticket number 4—and when I got to the door—no laptops left —same thing with the xbox, playstation, cameras etc—they handed out the tickets at midnight doors opened at 5:00am so they new when they handed out all the fake tickets that we would have to stand in the cold for another 5 hours and not get what we wanted–it was wrong. In line everyone was really nice sharing blankets and hot chocolate but people got ugly not towards each other they were angry at the store—–and the police were brought in. It kind of made me not want to go ever again!

411 Kathleen S. November 16, 2009 at 1:04 am

I used to go black friday shopping every year with my step sister-in-law. It was tradition. Thanksgiving dinner up north with DH’s mom and her dad, then we’d get up way early the next morning and drive an hour to the closest shopping town (they live in the middle of nowhere), and we’d shop til we dropped.
Well, this year DH’s mom passed away. We decided to have Thanksgiving with my parents. Which leaves me with no black friday shopping buddy…ugh!
My son offered but taking him bf shopping FOR him just doesn’t work for me.

Thank you for the great giveaway!

434 April November 16, 2009 at 9:01 am

I don’t go out on Black Friday as I hate crowds.

I usually don’t go out on black friday but I might this year if there’s something really good. Money’s tight this year so if its worth it I will or maybe shop online. Thanks.

I’m going ot check it out this year. I actually have cash to blow for the holidays this year!

When my mother was alive we were BIG TIME Black Friday shoppers. We’d plot our stop the night before and then set the alarm and head out in the wee hours of the morning and shop all day. When all the door busters were over, we’d stop also for a little break to rejuvenate and check over our lists to see how we were doing.

She’s since passed away, and so I don’t do that any more, but I remember it fondly.

Thanks.

I went once a couple of years ago to get a cars comforter set for really cheap. I don’t have the money to be shopping this year so i’m going to skip it.

453 Deborah R November 16, 2009 at 2:05 pm

I used to work in retail management, and when I left I swore I’d never set foot in a store on Black Friday again. I’ve managed to keep that vow. :D

My mom and I go Black Friday shopping every year! It’s a family tradition.

I use to shop black friday when my kids were younger and i could do more one stop shopping, like Toys R Us. But I don’t so much now.

I went last year around 9:00 also. It was kind of fun to go for awhile and then go for lunch. I think I might go this year too.

I hope to have all my shopping done by Black Friday; that’s my traditional day to curl up on the couch and address Christmas cards.

I went out shopping on Black Friday last year and purchased two flat screen TV’s. It was fun and we saved quite a lot of money!

471 Stacy November 16, 2009 at 6:35 pm

I don’t mind shopping on Black Friday but I prefer to go somewhere like Target that has the same deals all day. Then I can hit it mid-morning, get the deals and still sleep in.

I would just stay home & shop online.
I hate the traffic & the crowds.
Plus, with swine flu going around it’s just not worth it!

476 DanV November 16, 2009 at 7:59 pm

We try to brave the crowds but don’t wait outside too long
