Do you have an American Girl fan in your house?
My nieces are HUGE fans! But, anything American Girl-ish is so expensive!! Sometimes, I’m not as sad that I have all boys :)
American Girl currently has DVD’s for just $5. The regular price online is $14.95. This is a great deal, especially for a gift closet or stocking stuffers!
You can shop through Upromise to get 2% cash back too!

Question… Are the content of these movies a true account of the times or are they revisionist history? I am not interested in letting my child be subjected to a message that is a anti-american view or a socialist utopian view. I am open to any message that views the American point of view as it actually happened (the good and the bad).
Please advise…I have never viewed anything from American Girl. Thanks!

BJ, I have no clue!!!! I haven’t seen these films, but I’m guessing they keep it light enough for a child to comprehend regardless of the *true* accounts.

American Girl products were started to help young girls realize that girls can and have made a difference in any era. Mattel now owns the company so the “vision” has probably changed. Rather than a historical movie, the movies are about girls growing up in that specific generation. For example, Kit watches friends evitced from their home, father looses job, takes in boarders, sells eggs, Hobos wrongly accused, all things that happened during the great depression.
Felicity struggles with her personal decision to be a “loyalist” like her best friend or a “patriot” like her father. But learns that all can still be friends dispite political differences. Chrissa (DVD not on sale) learns how to deal with bullying and how to be a friend.
I think that they are excellent products for discussing people and differences for my daughter.
But I would start with the books. My daughter and I have read most of the historical dolls’ stories and from there she has choosen a doll that she likes best.
