The call today with Suze was so informative! It was hosted with Suze as part of her new role with Avon as their personal finance advisor to Avon representatives! Avon will be airing “Success Without Limits” on Saturday @ 6:30p on the Oxygen channel where representatives will share their financial success with the company.
I was in line to get my questions answered as several bloggers were on the call. So, I asked this question from Jen:
Would you recommend using a Universal Life Insurance plan to save for your children’s college?
Um, Jen, let me just say that Suze said HEAK NO! She explained that a 529 is the best option for saving for kiddos’ college. And, then only to do this if you are not in debt personally. Let me just tell you, that question riled her up alright. I was cracking up – she was just like she is on TV – blunt, honest, and authentic! Gotta love that!
The other thing we found out (and I ABSOLUTELY love) is that she answers reader questions HERSELF via twitter. She is @SuzeOrmanShow. I’m sorry, but she is a celebrity and to take her personal time to do this says a LOT about the person she is! “Girlfriends” she IS authentic and cares about helping people!
There were several good questions asked and I couldn’t get any others in. One personal question I had, and someone else asked, was what to do if you have debt to pay and no real established emergency fund. Her response: get the 8-month emergency fund built up and then work on debt (by the way, it’s now 8 months given the economy, not 6 months). Her rationale is that while she advocated using credit cards as an emergency fund in the past, those credit card companies are no longer being generous with credit if you pay them down/off. So, to be safe (and not go into further debt) have that emergency fund established.
If you want to see the chat going on during the call, you can see it all on twitter. Go to tweetchat.com and use hash tag #suze. You will see all of the tweeted questions/responses and discussion during the call.
An added, exciting bonus for us after the call was Suze offered us and OUR READERS a FREE download to her Will & Trust Kit that is valued at $2,500! That’s right – it’s FREE! To get your FREE Kit:
:: Visit Suze Orman.com
:: Click the “Will & Trust Kit” link on the left hand side
:: Click the orange “Gift Code” button on the lower right corner

This will be available for FREE until Saturday, April 25 @ NOON Midnight now. This is extremely generous! I plan on using that kit myself! Enjoy! I hope you will check out the twitter discussion because there was so much discussed that was incredibly valuable that I can’t even begin to type it all up!
And, stay tuned! I’ll have a cool giveaway courtesy of Suze in a few weeks!

Thank you so much for asking my question! I’ve known for a long time that I need to change the way we save for college–I just have to do it! We already have the 529 program set up, so I just need to act, and this conversation is prompting me to do so!
I love the Will kit and just signed up–awesome! Another thing I’ve been putting off!

Thank you so much for this. Like an above poster, this has been on our to-do list for 8 months! My husband is a seminarian unable to work and I’m a stay at home mom. You have no idea what a big difference $13 makes!
Peace to you!

Oh no! — this must have been a deadline of 12 midnight _Eastern_ time zone. It’s 11:20pm Central time and Suze’s site won’t accept the “Moms Rule” code. Any chance of an extension? Thanks.
